It's nearly review time!

This week I have been focusing on getting my project to a point where I can display it for the exhibition. I have focused on the idea of how people are connected to the places that they have worked in particular this one factory. I have experimented with painting, sewing and working into the images in different ways. This was a process to help me discover what and where I wanted to take this project. This project is very personal to me, I wanted to create delicate prints that i could build up and change to reflect the lives and memories of the building and of the jobs that effected people’s lives.

tuesday

This week i had a tutorial with jon and it helped me see that i need to think about just one thing! i have found that it is hard to just think about one thing with this project because it is a very personal project.

tuesday talk

Today’s talk was by JENNI LOMAX who is inspired by her passion for landscape. She studied art at college not art history which means that she came to art thought mark making not though her love of history of art. She seems to know a lot of artists as a curator, but I found the lecture difficult to follow as the lecture went so fast and she had so much to fill it with. Overall it was really good, but she never really told us anything about her own practice only other peoples.

Whitworth and Liverpool

Wu chi – tsumg was really interesting at the talk on Tuesday, I loved his work and especially his projected animations which I found really clever. Also this week I visited the Liverpool Biennial and I enjoyed how all of the exhibits were put in the most unlikely of places around the city. The Walker Art gallery had the, ‘John Moores painting prize,’ and I was impressed by the “Protest, 1st of April 2009,” by Nicholas Middliton.

manchester art, and CUBE gallery

On Tuesday, as a group, we visited 2 exhibitions. The first was in the Manchester Art Gallery, by Rafael Lozano-Hemmer called ‘Recorders,’ and the second was in the CUBE Gallery to see the ‘Designed Disorder and Interact shows.’ I answered several questions on each exhibit and then compared them and had a discussion in a small group from my year. I really like the first exhibit from Rafael as his work was really interactive and I liked how the viewer could affect each of the pieces. I loved that interaction between art and the viewer however was it because as a nation we like to be entertained by the things we view? At the CUBE gallery the work I saw was not that influential to me, I found the work hard to comprehend because the descriptions of the pieces were too complicated. Even though I know that the first exhibit was more obvious, I did enjoy and feel a stronger connection to this piece.

party day!!!!!

Yesterday we did a party with the first years, each group had a different theme, and ours was an astronaut theme. We covered a dark room in tin foil and made control panels under the projection that we did of the walks of the moon. We made helmets from cardboard cut outs and covering them in foil and did the same to our boots and backpacks. I really enjoyed working with the first years; it was a great way to start off the year and socialising between the years.

Over the summer I have been working on the project given to me by the tutors. I have explained it in much more detail in my journal, but I’ll give you a quick overview. My summer project was all about the abundance of water in Rome, I then compared it to the public water fountains in my home town of Warrington. Needless to say there were seven and that includes the metal box drink water fountains.

the rush!!!!

This week has been very rushed! I have finished my tent and have taken it into university but I cannot put it up and do the finishing touches to it until Thursday or Monday when we are allocated out exhibition spaces and the studio has been clear so I have space to put it up. I have photographed and logged all of my work for the year to finish my journal and include in my sketchbook. I have become more proficient in sewing and my time keeping this year and I have matured my level of work and thinking, which has allowed me to take my work to a different area. I have enjoyed doing my all of my work this year but by far my favourite is my most recent because I have been able to add a jovial side to it. It is also more personal, which motivated me more in completing my ideas and designs. Overall, I have loved this year. Trips, talks and projects have given me a mass of ideas for next year and future projects.

Nearly!

I have almost finished my tent, it has taken a lot longer than I first thought, be cause the tent I got was a lot bigger than I planned. I have also nearly completed my journal so. I feel a lot calmer about meeting the deadline. I want to do the final touches to the tent when I construct it in the studio because I don’t want any of the buttons or details to fall off when I move it.

febs missing posts!!!!!!

13th Feb

I just have gotten back from a few days in London and I really enjoyed it! It was organised by Jon but it was free and we could go and see the things we wanted rather than it being really restricted. We stayed in ‘The Generator,’ which was a hostel, but it was nice because again we could come and go as we pleased.
I visited lots of tourist sights and galleries such as the Natural History Museum, Tate Modern, Tate Britain, the V and A, the gallery of Everything and many more. I have written all about it in my journal.

20th Feb

This week I have caught up on all of my work that I missed when I was in London. I have made three canvases of samples of the patchwork colours and materials I have decided on, so I can decide what works and what does not.
I have put all of my information and pictures of London in my gallery book so I can take ideas from some of the things I have seen. I have also carried on with my sketchbook, I have collected and taken lots of photos of examples of work I thought would be useful to influence my work.

change

I have changed my project this week. I was finding it difficult to think about where I wanted to go with my work. So I have decided to change it to personal memories I have. I am planning to make my fond memories as a child of camping and visiting the beach in to a sort of memory blanket or memory camping kit. This is so I can link and join all of my happy memories together and create a, ‘safe place’ to hide or cover myself in.

Review

This week I had my review. It went really well, it lasted longer than the ten minutes I had to do but I found in the end it was really easy to talk about what I have been up to. I really liked looking at everyone else’s work as well, it gave me a chance to catch up on what has been going on.

new year!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!
I have aquired a map, an old yellow one, which I am sure my Dad will not miss! This is to help me with one of my ideas where I am mapping out meat! Im still working through how I am going to do it exactly though.

sorry!

Blog 27th Dec
I have spent a bit of my time while I have been off on some personal projects. I have created a piece to be entered for a competition ending the 31st of January. I have found it difficult to think of new things to include in my project so I have been finding inspiration in other artists I admire, such as Banksey and Camilla, which I have researched in my sketchbook.

late i know!

Blog 8th Dec
This week I have focused on a few key things I have needed to finish. I have written about the ideas I have had for my cbbc project so I could include them in my pitch. I have also been looking at a new competition for the TSB that I am thinking of ideas for. I have completed my essay which I am ready to hand in and I have started a mind map of the things I want tot involve in the video I m doing for this project.
